F.W. Conrad Jr (1800 – 1870) /1/ was a member from 1834 and a consultant from 1863. Mr. Conrad Jr made particular efforts to improve Dutch infrastructure: water management and railways, and became internationally known for his chairmanship of the committee that advised the Viceroy of Egypt on the construction of the Suez Canal /2/.

In the Netherlands he became known as one of the founders of the railway network and was a driving force behind the choice of steam drainage for the reclamation of the Haarlemmermeer /3/.
